It was released on October 11, 1991. Although its official release date is October 8, 1991, some versions of Microsoft Works were offered to customers during its first few years of existence, giving them the option to begin using it as early as October 6, 1991.[1][2] Microsoft Works 9.0 included some new features that were not available in Microsoft Office. These enhancements, including support for Microsoft Excel 3.0, were not part of Microsoft Office at the time, but are commonly included in newer versions of Microsoft Office. These features included: Microsoft Excel add-ins that would enable users to make complex calculations with spreadsheets, and allow the user to perform certain file conversions in Microsoft Works as well; for example converting Word documents into Excel Spreadsheets; adding custom charts to Spreadsheets; adding Excel columns and charts to documents; and displaying custom charts and columns in a slide show. The new version of Microsoft Works featured more than 3,000 new features and fixed several defects in previous versions. Additionally, when it was released, Microsoft made some changes to the way that its previous version did business. This included providing a “workstation” mode that could be used in certain business situations (such as with a school, a business, or an organization), and it allowed users to access Microsoft Works in the system's default web browser rather than having to install the program; this allowed Microsoft Windows users to access Microsoft Works when they were working in Internet Explorer. Some many new features of Microsoft Works include: the ability to save documents, spreadsheets, and databases to standard Microsoft Works folders, in addition to Microsoft Word; the introduction of a “Save to Compiler” feature allowing users to save documents, documents and spreadsheets to another program on which Microsoft Works could be run; Microsoft Works 9.0: Introduction Microsoft Works 3.0 — PC World Microsoft Works 3.0: Introduction Microsoft Works 3.0: Introductory Video Microsoft Works 6.0 — PC World Microsoft Works 6.0: Introduction — The Video Microsoft Works 6.0: Computer History — The Video Microsoft Works 7.0 — PC World Microsoft Works 7.0: Introductory Video— The Video Microsoft Works 8.0 — PC World Microsoft Works 8.0: Introduction — The Video Microsoft Works 8.0: Introductory Video — The Video Microsoft Works 8.0: Introduction — The Video Microsoft Works 8.
