Why Don we Move to Windows Al Klein is right that it a huge project to move to Windows (or Android)the entire app needs to be rewritten! Weve considered some of the cross-platform development solutions but our app has a lot ofplex high speed graphics and so needs to squeeze every bit of speed out of the hardware that we can. In at least one place we have to manage our own memory! No cross-platform development solution was a good fit. So weve been interested in moving to Windows for a couple years now but it hasn made senseuntil now. Weve now started hiring the people to do the development and are writing the first pieces well need. So no release date yet but hopefully soon.

I won say one browser or the other is good but herees my experience with browsers. My laptop is middle-end (actually low-end if you consider today standards) Intel Pentium T44 2.2 GHz Dual Core 3GB of RAM. Safari was tested on an older PC as I only had my laptop since 213; that PC had Intel Celeron 42 1.6 GHz Single Core 1GB of RAM. Opera wasn't too good back in the Presto times. Now I think it uses either Webkit or Chrome's engine but tuned a bit differently. It uses more RAM (similar to beta versions of Edge) and performs better (responsiveness). Tested on 32-bit Windows 8.1 last time. On my 3GB-of-ram Linux system Chrome works quite well. On Windows Edge had potential and early versions worked better than Chrome! As a matter of fact I have used Microsoft Edge as my main browser between the first version of Project Spartan and some build between 124 and 1586 or I used it in 1586 the as-of-19-june-216 latest non-Beta build? I don know really. Firefox Nope for being single-process. Nope. Nope. Using the aboutmemory page is not something natural (manually triggering garbage collection and cycle collection) Last time I used it was about 2 years ago (just moved to the laptop Im editing this answer on) IE IE11 was actually quite good and I used it extensively especially as it used the least amount of RAM in all multiprocess browsers I had! The only dislike I had was not being able to really kill a page as it was always restored. It was also nice in some early previews of Windows 1 as it could use the Edge rendering engine (before the Project Spartan later renamed as Microsoft Edge appeared). I have used it quite productively but somehow the newest builds of Windows 1 have it genuinely borked (the one in Windows 8.1 works better and can be a good alternative) Apple Safari Safari once had a Windows version let's say it's a bit worse memorywise than Opera. As a matter of fact once a page went close to the 2GB limit and crashed It's reasonably nice on Hackintosh 1.9 and I expect it to be even better on (not quite? 1.9 can receive Safari 9 as update). Quite a good alternative on Apple machines not so on other platforms (old on Windows none on Linux) Others? Just ask and I'll give my opinion. Yes I may reinstall Windows so you can ask about Windows-only browsers but you'll get a Linux answer quickly. My choice is Chrome but always keep an eye open at the alternatives.
